Incorporating Solar Into New Builds within the City Of Vancouver and Lower Mainland

The purpose of this presentation is to provide information and insight into the benefits of building with solar in the Lower Mainland for Builders, Developers, Architects, Engineers, homeowners and others in the construction industry. Along with the City of Vancouver, which is aiming to be the greenest city in the world by 2020, many areas in the Lower Mainland have passed the Solar Ready Bylaw including the District of North Vancouver, District of Maple Ridge and Township of Langley. We'll explore the necessity to implement solar into building projects, from large scale commercial to residential homes.

Landon Aldridge is the Operations Manager for Terratek and is LEED accredited. His philosophy is to educate and empower people with the right perspective of ROI with renewables. He works hard to help people understand that the real ROI takes into account such factors as escalating energy cost, increased value and peace of mind. The company's traction in the industry is a testament to Landon's environmental values, high quality workmanship and the community-minded vision that he brings to the industry.

Scott Fleenor is the Sales Manager with Terratek. Scott has worked with dozens of municipalities, presenting to council members and residents on the topic of renewable energy, including the municipalities in BC that have passed the Solar Ready Bylaw. He is an advocate of the benefits of building green, and the long-term legacy that renewables can provide to homeowners and communities. Scott's first priority is to enable people with the right information so that they can learn about the different renewable energy systems out there, and come to an informed conclusion on what might best suit their needs.

Joe Geluch is a Trade Certified Carpenter with 15 years experience in the construction industry , and an Instructor at Vancouver Community College-Construction Applications. He has Gold Seal Training in project management through the Canadian Construction Association and is a Certified Build Green BC Specialist. His company, Naikoon Contracting Ltd., is one of the most experienced and accredited green home builder's in the province, using a multitude of sustainable construction practices including Solar Thermal and Solar Photovoltaic technology.

RACHELTHUMB

Rachel Moscovich is a Green Building Planner with the City of Vancouver. Her work focuses on reducing greenhouse gas emissions from buildings throughout the city. This is accomplished through greening Vancouver's building code, and developing tools for landlords and homeowners, including incentives and financing. Rachel is a LEED Accredited Professional with a background in carbon accounting, sustainable business, green design and planning.
