We are tracking the energy savings accumulated each month from 20 of our featured customers. These customers have requested SunReports renewable energy monitors for their solar hot water and solar electric systems. From these monitors we're able to capture and collect the data to keep an eye on the savings.

Profiled customers include Hazelmere Farm, Victoria General Hospital and Vanier Secondary School. The picture below shows the total energy savings as of the end of November, in terms of kWhs, coal, carbon emissions and more!

But renewable energy monitoring isn't the only way to keep an eye on your energy loads. Purchasing a basic or detailed electricity meter can help you manage electrical loads for your home or business and provide insight into energy efficient upgrading decisions.

To break it down let's compare average consumption stats on the savings listed above:

  • An average, two-story, three bedroom house uses 1500 kWhs a month, meaning we've saved enough energy to date to power a house for almost 12 and a half years.
  • 2 pounds of coal generates about 2.75 kWh of electricity, which means we've generated approximately 103,910 kWh of coal-free electricity.
  • An average car emits around 750 pounds of CO2 a month, which means the GHG emissions from the installations we've done is enough to take just over 10 cars off the road for one year.
  • The carbon we've offset is equal to 121,369 miles driven by a car. That's 195,324.5 km or across Canada and back 29 times!
  • 1 kWh is equivalent to about 2.2 lbs of carbon offsets so our total pounds of carbon offsets to date is: 486,123. On average, a mature tree can absorb CO2 at a rate of 48 lbs a year, meaning we’ve produced the equivalent offsets of 10127 trees!
